Painted Lady – Vanessa cardui

The Painted Lady butterfly is one of the main butterflies that you can see nearly everywhere you go except Australia and Antarctica. The Painted Lady only lives in warmer climates but they often migrate to colder regions in spring and autumn. They are also called Thistle butterflies because their favourite food is the thistle plant because of the nectar the plant produces, they are also called the Cosmopolitan butterflies because of their global distribution. The Painted Lady can fly up to 100 miles per day during their migration and reach a speed of up to 30 miles an hour.
