Large Wall Butterfly – Lasiommata megera
The Large Wall Butterfly not surprisingly gets its name from liking to rest mainly on walls but I was lucky to find this one on a lovely flower, but when its very hot does it like to find shade. The eggs are pale green when first laid and their shape is nearly spherical but slightly higher than broad, it is finely ribbed and reticulated. When the caterpillar is fully grown it is whitish green and dotted with white spots and when the dots become large enough they produce greyish bristles and has three lines on the back which are whitish edged in dark green. Photograph was taken in Zakynthos in July 2019.
