Catsear – Hypachaeris radicata
This plant can be difficult to distinguish from other dandelion like plants. Its hairy leaves have very broad teeth and are in a loose, untidy rosette. The leafless flower stems are sometimes branched and have tiny, scale-like, dark tipped bracts resembling miniature cat’s ears. The outer ray florets of the yellow flower heads are tinged green beneath. It starts flowering in June after the main crop of Dandelions has finished and understandably many people think that this is also a Dandelion.
