Banded Peacock
The banded peacock (Anartia Fatima) is a species of butterfly found in the southern United States, Mexico and Central America. It has a wing span of 6 to 7 cm and the males patrol for receptive females and they lay their eggs on bracts of flower clusters, the adults feed on nectar from flowers. They are often found in open and disturbed areas such as fields, weedy places, orchards etc. This photograph was taken while on holiday in Mexico.
