Bruarfoss í vetur (in winter)

The amazing glacial blue color of this notoriously hard-to-find waterfall in SW Iceland stands out beautifully against the black lava rock and recent snowfall. The image was taken shortly before sunset with completely overcast skies, so the soft winter light illuminated the area.

It takes a 20-minute cross country hike to arrive at a foot bridge over the river. Look up the name of the falls and you'll find more than a few stories about lost photographers trying to find the site. Fortunately I was on a trip with an Icelandic guide. It goes without saying how beautiful this place is. I've mostly only seen summer pictures online, I hope you enjoy this winter view.
