treasure cleanliness

Indian service stations are few and far between, but spectacular when you reach them. Compared to the dust, bumps and noise of the roads, they're little enclaves of heaven on earth - like roadside garden festivals of subtropical intensity. Or something out of the film of Mary Poppins.

This one, besides boasting heavily landscaped pleasure grounds (including scenic walks and a couple of follies), was home to a massive aviary of songbirds. Whom I felt a little sorry for, but they certainly enlivened the atmosphere.
