Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery
From their website:
Since the beginning of Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery, our winemaking has grown from a barn with two small tanks and five acres of choice vineyard property to a state of the art winery, with a vast collection of some of the finest vineyards in California.
Our Winery
"Winemaking is art and science, tradition and technology, hard work and magic, all at the same time. There is always a new way to think about it and look at it. No wonder wine continually fascinates me."
- George Bursick, Winemaker
An ideal blend of tradition and technology lies behind the fine wines of Ferrari-Carano. Our modern production facility was designed and built to accommodate our style and quality goals. From state-of-the-art fermentation tanks to unique yeast strains to our oak barrel program, every step in the process is enhanced by the finest tools available.
Our Vineyards
"Growing the best grapes means working hand in hand with Mother Nature and using our viticultural know-how to nudge her in the right direction."
- Steve Domenichelli, Director of Vineyard Operations
Our 18 vineyards are found in the finest winegrowing regions of Sonoma County. These regions are officially known as appellations. Our vineyards are located in four appellations.
We are pleased to announce Winemaker Aaron Piotter has joined the winemaking team and together with George Bursick will head the new Alexander Valley mountain wine estate.
The mountain wine estate project includes 400 acres of distinct mountain vineyards; new caves completed this summer and a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery slated for completion in the spring of 2004. While a portion of the mountain fruit will be used to make wines under the new brand, the balance of the grapes will continue to be used in the wines of Ferrari-Carano.
Rounding out the Carano's winemaking team is enology consultant Philippe Melka, who was hired in April as a consultant to work on the mountain estate. "Philippe and I have a very similar approach to winemaking," observed Piotter. "We both believe the quality of the Carano's Alexander Valley vineyards will be expressed in complex wines with excellent structure and density."
