"Mantua me genuit

Calabri rapuere

tenet nunc Parthenope

cecini pascua rura duces"

Publius Vergilius Maro (Andes-Mantua, October 15, 70 B.C. – Brindisi, September 21, 19 B.C.)

Virgil, born in the village of Andes near Mantua, was an ancient Roman poet of the Augustan period. He is traditionally ranked as Rome's greatest poets, well known for three major works of Latin literature, the Eclogues (or Bucolics), the Georgics, and the epic Aeneid. Aeneid has been considered the national epic of ancient Rome from the time of its composition to the present day.
