Salines Aigues-Mortes, France
Aigues-Mortes is a commune in the Gard department in the Occitania region of southern France.
The salt has long been one of the main resources of the city. To achieve "table salt quality", water pumped from the sea travels more than 70 km in "roubines". The concentration of sodium chloride is from 29 to more than 260 g/kilo. Mechanically harvested salt is piled up in the twinkling "camelles" before being packaged.
