Jerusalem
Robert Indiana's iconic work "LOVE" (Ahava in Hebrew) was first created for a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA, New York) in 1964 and in 1973 was selected for a United States postage stamp, the first of their regular series of "Love" stamps. Sculptural versions of the image have been installed at numerous American and international locations.
In 1977 he created a Hebrew version using Cor-ten steel for the Israel Museum, to the people of Israel in a spirit of international brotherhood.
A graphic sculpture that has a huge physical presence.
Gift of Beverly and Dr. Raymond Sackler, Connecticut, to American Friends of the Israel Museum.
Robert Indiana, born Robert Clark (1928 – 2018), was an American artist associated with the pop art movement.
One of the attractions of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, is the Billy Rose Art Garden, designed by the Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi. The garden’s uniqueness is in the crescent-shaped sections, arching upward and supported by high walls, reminiscent of the terraces dispersed in the Jerusalem hills and the traces of agricultural activity in the Judean Hills.
