A comedy film directed by Bruno Barreto, based on the novel of the same name by Jorge Amado, takes place in 1940s Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.

Starring : Sônia Braga, José Wilker, Mauro Mendonça

In the historic quarter Pelourinho, a woman named Flor marries a man named Vadinho, but once married she finds that he is a good-for-nothing. She works teaching cooking in her school "Sabor & Arte" but he takes all of her money to gamble. One day, Vadinho suddenly dies.

After Vadinho's death, Flor marries the respectable but extraordinarily dull pharmacist Teodoro. Flor is happy with her new husband but misses the love life with her previous husband.

Out of a plot twist, the ghost of Vadhino comes back to seduce her one more time.

Only Flor can see and hear the nude spirit of Vadinho, but he still manages to create chaos through his spiritual presence at casinos. She protests because she is now remarried and has pledged to be faithful to Teodoro, but after Vadinho laughs during Teodoro's pathetic attempts at love-making, Flor gives in and lives happily with both husbands. The last two shots depict Flor in her new marital bliss.
