To ἱμάτιον τοῦ Ηφαίστου - Hephaestus's mantle
... made of lava sliding from the volcano Etna ...
Hephaestus (Greek: Ἥφαιστος Hēphaistos) is the Greek god of blacksmiths, metalworking, carpenters, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metallurgy, fire, and volcanoes. Hephaestus' Roman equivalent is Vulcan.
In Greek mythology, Hephaestus was the son of Zeus and Hera and he got thrown off Mount Olympus because of his deformity. Hera ejected Hephaestus from the heavens because he was "shrivelled of foot". He fell into the ocean and was raised by Thetis, mother of Achilles and one of the 50 Nereids.
According to most versions, Hephaestus's consort is Aphrodite (Venus), who is unfaithful to him with a number of gods and mortals, including Ares (Mars).
