Weather In Transition
Taken in the last week of November 2011, this was an exceptional transition period from extreme cold to an incredible warm snap that would last until mid-January 2012.
This was an amazing time for nature photography in Fish Creek Park, as there were beautiful examples of warm and cold environments briefly and beautifully co-existing everywhere you looked.
Here we see the Bow River at very low-ebb, a shot taken from the rocky riverbed on a cool little island that is only accessible when the water is very low.
Due to the lush conditions created by the constant, fresh water that is always flowing past it (on the other side of this island the river widens and gets much, much deeper before reaching the other shore, so, even when the top of the river and most of this island is frozen solid, there is still of ton of fresh, moving water always flowing around it), there are always many examples of wildlife and flourishing flora to be found here.
It is one of my favorite spots in all of Fish Creek Park, which is huge!
p.s. - Note the two ducks swimming slowly away into the setting sun...
