LMS Princess Coronation Class 46229 'Duchess of Hamilton'
Preserved LMS Princess Coronation Class 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive 46229 'Duchess of Hamilton' in non streamlined form during The Great Railway Cavalcade Rocket 150 celebrations at Rainhill Merseyside (UK) on May 25th 1980.
46229 seen here wearing its British Railways number was designed by Chief Mechanical Engineer of the LMS William Stanier and built at Crewe Works as 6229 in September 1938.
The Duchess was retired from service as British Railways 46229 in February 1964.
46229 now resides as part of the national collection in its original streamlined form and original 6229 LMS number in the Great Hall at the National Railway Museum in York (UK).
