Chelmsford, Tindal Street 1970
Excellent record of the butchery of one side of the beautiful historic Tindal Street in Chelmsford (UK) in 1970 to make way for the Boots store and the rest of Chelmsford Precinct (now High Chelmer Shopping Centre) but what the actual street was replaced with was a windowless brick edifice and a service yard.. unforgivable.
As many old Chelmsfordians will know this side of the street and beyond was many old buildings, ancient coaching yards, public houses and a Hotel amongst others over the centuries. It's historical vandalism that many have never forgiven the callous planners of the 1960s for. With a little more thought this narrow 'Back Street' (it's original name) could have been Chelmsford's version of The Shambles. Too late now.
