Class 87, 87002 'Royal Sovereign'

Preserved British Rail Class 87 25kV Bo-Bo electric locomotive 87002 'Royal Sovereign' in 1980s British Rail Inter City swallow livery shoving the 1Z87 07:02 (11:20 5L) Crewe- Norwich 'Inter-City Tours' excursion train northbound at Hatfield Peverel Station on the Great Eastern Main Line in the County of Essex (UK).

87002 is one of only three Class 87 locomotives in preservation and the only mainline certified locomotive.

This is only the 3rd Class 87 locomotive to appear in my photostream and I've no recollection of any Class 87 running on the GEML before.

87002 was constructed at British Rail Engineering Ltd (BREL) Crewe works in June 1973 and is owned and operated by Locomotive Services Limited.

Sadly due to the extremely poor weather, lighting conditions and sheer speed of the train, this photograph did not come out as well as David hoped. ;-(
