Kelvedon/Feering High Street Guidepost

Close up of the historic guidepost or fingerpost at the end of the High Street in the village of Kelvedon and Feering in Essex (UK).

While I have no definitive data on this particular post I'm satisfied this is one of the hundreds of guideposts manufactured by the 'Maldon Iron Works' of Heybridge and installed by Essex County Council between 1922-1940. Note the ECC legend on the finial/roundel.

It's nice to see the 'A12' still marked on the post. The post is located on the former Roman Great Essex Road which became the A12 in 1922 and B1024 in 1967 when the village of Kelvedon was bypassed.
