My Seiko Solar SSC017P for the day

I bought this little gem when I visited Penang in 2013 and it was my second watch purchase from a small watch store along Penang Road since 2007.

It's gone through one new rechargeable lithium ion cell as I once kept it too long inside my drawer that it went dead for several months.

This particular model has been discontinued by Seiko today, but newer models of different dial and bezel colors have the Prospex "X" logo printed on their dials.

The current Seiko Solar chronograph models come with a ridiculous 15-20% price hike, as if to justify their "official" position in the Seiko Prospex lineup. Boy, am I glad I bought this watch when it was much cheaper six years ago! ⌚️👍

Like many midrange Seiko quartz, Kinetic and Solar models this watch was very likely to have been assembled by Seiko's overseas production facility in Singapore, although its movement and parts were sourced from Japan.

Please excuse the speckle spots on the watch crystal. I was near the river and the salty air near the coast deposited some salt spray on the watch glass. I didn't realize this only after I examined this shot on my computer back home!
