Miss Liberty at War

Liberty Leading the People

(La Liberté guidant le peuple)

Oil on Canvas, 260 cm × 325 cm

Eugène Delacroix, 1830

Remember the Statue of Liberty in New York? I first gazed at it a few years back. That statue was a gift from France. I would later learn that the stance of that statue, is largely based from this painting by Eugène Delacroix. The painting shows a woman personifying Liberty, holding a flag on one hand and a bayonet on the other -- leading the people from all walks of life, through bodies of the fallen. This painting personified the French revolution.
