... a village hero. Funny, how he was called the first Philippine Hero when, at that time there was no Philippines yet, and this man, will even butcher people from nearby Cebu Island if they crossed his village...

Well, it turned out that it was Portuguese Explorer Magellan who got in his way -- and LapuLapu became a hero? Trust me, if it were people from Luzon, Cebu, Bohol, Mindanao or from anywhere else in the Philippines who tried to come to his village, he will kill them anyway.

So much for our selection of Heroes. Much like our high regard for Rizal who literally turned down to be part of the Philippine revolution -- and still is regarded as a "national" hero. and by the way, I never respected womanizers no matter how good a writer they are.

I think I'm getting the idea why its hard to select really good leaders at present. Something's wrong with the people. There goes democracy. Maybe the Philippines is not mature enough for it. I believe for as long as the voters can be bought, the Philippines will never be mature enough for democracy. The country doesn't need the reign of politicians -- maybe, just maybe, it needs a reign of terror and of a painful rebirth.
