The city for us that don't like cities
Edinburgh. Somehow I like visiting Edinburgh. It is rather small for a city, but still a city. And there is no shortage of tourists there! And if there is one thing I hate when I am a tourist.... yes,it is tourists!!
But Edinburgh has something. It is mighty beautiful in the old city. And with loads of interesting things to do. But so I guess other cities are too. And after 16 years and 11 trips to Britain we have still not visited London. Nor Liverpool, and I am a LFC suporter. (Part of the reason for not going to a match is that if they loose the match, which they will do if I go there, that will ruin the rest of the week for me)
Last September we stayed in a nice little town north of the bay, Aberdour. It was 30 minutes by train in to the city, and a perfect solution for us. Cheap and nice hotel, and exploring the city during the day.
One reason for going back to Edinburgh this time was that we wanted to see Dean Village. A peaceful spot in the city, and with much history. From Wikipedia: "Dean Village (from dene, meaning 'deep valley') is a former village immediately northwest of the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland. It was known as the "Water of Leith Village" and was the centre of a successful grain milling area for more than 800 years. At one time there were no fewer than eleven working mills there, driven by the strong currents of the Water of Leith."
Dean Village is tiny, but well worth a visit. So is a walk along Millers Row following the Water of Leith.
There are many more photos from Edinburgh in the first comment.
