Summit Sunrise

Have you ever wondered what the summit of a mountain looks like. I know I have. So when I saw this I thought it was a super cool shot. To the people in the Northwest this is the tallest mountain around. Mt Hood. Having seen this mountain from varying distances almost daily for 30 years was another reason why this shot intrigued me. And after knowing the photographer of this shot, Josh Lawrence, for the last several years I also know the reasoning for this to be taken at sunrise. It all has to do with the condition of the snow and the safety involved. That is why they start their final ascent at 1 in the morning. But if it was for no other reason but to get this view, I would take it every time. After seeing this shot and telling Josh he needs to pack a good camera and not just his iPhone ( because in a 35 day span he summited 5 mountains from here to Ecuador ). And after talking about the comp and the glow on the mountain I finally asked who the person was. This shot is a year old and it could have been anybody. As it turns out it is my daughter Cynthia on her third attempt to summit Mt. Hood. After getting over the surprise of not having seen this shot before it immediately became one of my favorite shots. For after she summited Mt. Hood last year I was immensely proud of her for sticking with it that I had to have this picture. And now I do and it sits on my desk.
