STINKY CRAYONS
Star Wars Baseball : Jawa vs. Cincinnati Reds
When I was a kid the baseball corporation I most cheered for was the Reds. I even liked them when they were a so-so team. Which was actually every year till recently. Yet they had a few stars that I enjoyed. Back in the day when they cared about having stars on their team and not just trading away everybody each year for unnamed minor league prospects. I would love to be a GM.
I think MLB needs more permanent teams, to allow the players to bond, to grow and for the fans to feel connected. Instead its just like a business and sadly that trickles over into the minor leagues and pee-wee ball. One solution I have thought of would be to have each team only allowed to use player’s from the state the team is in.
This Jawa was one of the first toys I photographed around 2000. Once again like the Superman Toy, I did not know what white balance was. Although I did a neat trick on toy by covering up the sky-light in the figure so it would look more realistic. I did not plan the shot out very well. I just found a picture of the Reds and put on-top a picture I had previous took of the Jawa.
I am kind of surprised that we have not seen a crossover video game with baseball and Star Wars. Think of the possibilities that could bring! It could be really fun but only if its rated M for mature. If you are the Empire then you could use the Force powers to trick the other team, or crush your players for not performing well. Here are some ideas I thought of.
-Jedi & Sith can bat with the light-saber.
-Droids can be used to upgrade players by installing cybernetics or upgrading bats.
-Each stadium takes place on a different Star Wars planet with unique features such as Ewoks will throw rocks on the field of the opposing team. 7th inning stretch on Hoth Imperial Walkers start slowly walking through the field to distract the players.
-Upgrades could be found by hitting certain targets – kind of like a pinball mechanic.
-RPG system to upgrade players after each game.
-Clubhouse mini-games
-Side story as a fan going to the stadium. The player could have gotten free tickets and needs to find out who sent them. Or they get a note saying the power is going to be cut off and you need to find out why.
-Pokemon style collecting of players – Send out spies in off-season mini game.
See the list could go on and on. So game developers hire me cause I be a broke! If they did make a game like this I bet it would just be like a light version of Mario Baseball instead of trying to make a RPG/Action baseball game!
P.S. – The baseball player pictured is Austin Kearns, another good player they traded away too soon. Don’t you think the umpire in the background looks like a UPS truck driver? I don’t see him kicking my packages though. Guess that’s what the 7th inning stretch is for.
