Indonesia - Java - Landscapes and Vistas - On the Train (KA Argo Wilis, Eksekutif)

On the Train, from Bandung to Surakarta, a.k.a. Solo. We started at 07h00 and arrived at our destination, Solo, around 15h42 and 448 km further.

Aris, our tourguide, booked us on the Eksekutif; more luxurious than the regular coaches would turn out to be. Catering offered tea, coffee, and made-to-order noodle soup and nasi goreng (fried rice), amongst others. Also, a security officer is part of the crew, as well are 2 mechanics, just in case. Air conditioned, foot rest, reclining chairs, and an absolutely stunning landscape to travel through, it all made this train ride worthwhile. I'd recommend anyone visiting Java to get on board, at least once, of this one.

The KA Argo Wilis' "maiden flight" was on 8 November 1998, and till date it goes all the 699 km (11 hrs)

and only stops at: Stasiun Tasikmalaya, Kutoarjo, Yogyakarata, Solo Balapan and Madiun. Bandung and Surabaya lie within easy reach when choosing KA Agro Wilis.

Java is the world's most densely populated island (population: 136 million). It is home to 60% of Indonesia's population. Much of Indonesian history took place on Java; it was the centre of powerful Hindu-Buddhist empires, Islamic sultanates, the core of the colonial Dutch East Indies, and was at the centre of Indonesia's campaign for independence. The island dominates Indonesian social, political and economic life. More information on wikipedia.
