When Duro Olowu presented his first London Fashion Week show in 2007, his dresses - collaged from African and vintage European fabrics - already had a following at his Portobello Road shop. He attributes his eye for design to his multicultural upbringing in Lagos. Duo's Jamaican mother had her clothes tailored from Yoruba fabric and Yves Saint Laurent prints, and he spent summers in London absorbing the style of his reggae-loving cousins. He is now an international art curator, in parallel with running his eponymous store in Mason's Yard, London. The drop of fabric behind the dress has been collaged by Duro from textile designs originally created for the Bamako Pompadour collection.
