“Kimono ensemble
Hiroko Takahashi (b. 1977)
The universal language of circles and straight lines is utilized to dramatic effect by Hiroko Takahashi.
Takahashi originally planned to make western-style clothing. In kimono, however, she found the perfect vehicle for her distinctive aesthetic that seeks to bridge fashion and art. She designs all her garments as unisex.
Kimono: designed in Tokyo, made in Tökamachi,
Niigata prefecture, 2009; crépe silk (chirimen), digital printing; under-kimono (juban): plain weave silk, digital printing
Obi: designed in Tokyo, made in Kyoto, 2006; brocade silk (nishiki)
Zöri: designed and made in Tokyo, 2009; silk, brocade silk (nishiki), leather and enamel
