views from the Croesus Track, West Coast, South Island, New Zealand

One of the finest tracks on the West Coast the route crosses the Paparoa Ranges from Blackball in the east to Barrytown in the west, going through several climactic zones on the way from rainforest to high mountain meadows. On the east the forest is dominated by beech and rimu but on the west the canopy trees are often the gloriously flowered rata. Rare birds including kiwi and blue duck still make a home in this forest.
