Birds galore!

This shot is of birds taking off from the shallows of Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere), panicked into flight by a kahu (swamp harrier) circling overhead. It's a good example of the biodiversity of birdlife in a wetland. Birds in this picture include pied stilt, bar-tailed godwit, grey teal, paradise duck, mallard duck, spur-winged plover and more!
