Looking east toward Christchurch from Porters Pass

Porters Pass is the first pass on the main road from Christchurch to the West Coast and is the entry from the Canterbury Plains to the South Island High Country. It is high, steep country with tussocked slopes, mountain lakes and forested valleys.
