Akaroa Harbour, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, New Zealand
Banks Peninsula on the edge of the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand's South Island is an ancient volcanic feature with two large natural harbours (Akaroa and Lyttelton) formed out of the drowned craters of two enormous old volcanoes long extinct. The volcanic hills surrounding the harbour drop steeply to the sea with their high ridges affording amazing views.
