Ashley River Estuary, Canterbury, New Zealand

The braided, shallow channels of this estuary provide a variety of alluvial shingle, mudflats, sand and shell banks for local wildlife.

 

The Ashley River Estuary is a nationally significant wetland with associated dune and coastal landscapes. One of the largest largely unmodified wetlands in Canterbury it is home to a number of native species as well as presenting a great variety of beautiful landscapes.
