Hari Hari coast, Westland, South Island, New Zealand
The Hari Hari Coastal walkway is one of the finest short walks on the South Island's West Coast. In little more than two hours one is treated to magnificent swamp forest, tidal wetlands and estuarine landscapes, tall native forest dominated by magnificent rimu, kahikatea and rata, wild rocky beaches, treacherous rivers and sandy beaches strewn with mountains of driftwood. The backdrop to all of this is the magnificent view literally from the sea shore to the highest of New Zealand's mountains only 50k or so away. This sea to the peaks landscape is a feature of the scenery of the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
