Wanganui River estuary, Hari Hari, from the 'Doughboy'
One of the features of the Hari Hari Coastal walkway is the nationally important wetland at the mouth of the Wanganui River and the ancient glacial mound "the doughboy' that now sits isolated on the flat coastal plane, left behind by the last ice age, a steep promontory on an otherwise flat estuarine landscape. Popular for trampers because of the view it affords, the doughboys is also a nesting site for petrels.
