Pariwhero - Red Rocks - Wellington south coast New Zealand

These photos detail a walk along the south coast of Wellington, south-west from Owhiro Bay, past Red Rocks and to the seal colony and return. It was a beautiful day with big seas coming in which were being blown back by a strong offshore wind.

The Red Rocks are ancient pillow lava formed 200 million years ago by undersea volcanic eruptions. Small amounts of iron oxides give the rocks their distinctive colouring.
