Natural bonsai! - coprosma repens atop a coastal rock

I was taken by this coprosma atop a large boulder in the Turakirae scientific reserve, near the Wainuiomata Coast, Wellington, New Zealand. Shaped by the salty coastal winds, this tree sat gnarled and aged on its precarious perch. As this was outside the actual reserve this area of coastal shrubland was being grazed, and it almost seemed the plant had taken refuge, just above the reach of the sheep. A dramatic and rather beautiful picture of survival!
