4WD in the South Island tussocklands

The use of four-wheel-drive vehicles as access to the great utdoors in New Zealand has been popular for many years. This vehicle was negotiating an area in the Ashburton Lakes District. of course they have sometimes become a problem, with tracks often damaging the fragile alpine soil structures and plants and in this area strict controls now limt where 4WD vehicles can go.
