Lake Tekapo Mackenzie Country, South Island, New Zealand Winter 2010
This is the part of New Zealand I still call home, even though it is some years since I lived there. Under the shadows of these mountains I was born; in these open fields, high ridges and glacier-fed lakes I played as a child and worked as a young man; across these high peaks I dared to venture. On a recent - too short - journey home I travelled from Timaru to Tekapo; east to west; Pacific Ocean to the high spine that is the Southern Alps. The mountains welcomed me! I have vowed not to leave it so long to go home to them again!
