Tarakena Bay, Wellington, New Zealand

The dramatic and beautiful southern coasts of Wellington, New Zealand's capital city, are exposed to the infamous Cook Strait, a piece of wild water separating North and South Islands. Swept by frequent strong winds and big seas, the coast can also be clear, tranquil and softly calm. It's moods change often within the hour. The hard, contorted rock, in rich reds, yellows, greys and browns, are home to a huge variety of tidal and coastal aquatic species and birds, plus seals and penguins.
