Tern colony
This is a very large colony of tara - white-fronted tern (Sterna striata) at Lake Ellesmere, Canterbury, New Zealand. Mixed in with the EWF Terns are Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia) and a few black-billed gull (Larus bulleri). The colony is beautifully located in a vast field of lake-edge wildflowers.
