Boulder Bay, Bankls Peninsula, Christchurch, New Zealand

Boulder Bay is one of the last places along the Taylor's Mistake to Boulder Bay coastline on Banks Peninsula where traditional Kiwi baches are still occupied. Many of these make-do holiday homes were built into caves and rock edges barely back from the beach. Primitive with minimal sanitary facilities they were a working class man's escape. Over the years the lack of ability to have proper sanitation and waste systems mean many of these traditional baches have been removed, but at Boulder Bay a few remain in private ownership and are occupied at weekends and holidays.
