A country home

I was taken by this home overlooking Halswell quarry, not only because it was in such a beautiful setting but because I thought how well it's surroundings symbolised the hybrid New Zealand pastoral scene that has evolved as native and introduced plants work together in the landscape. In this scene are eucalypts from Australia, garden ornamentals from Europe, North America and Asia, and native plants such as the iconic New Zealand plant symbols, the harakeke and the te kouka (New Zealand flax and cabbage tree).
