Summit Road sunset

This series of photographs was taken from the Summit Road, a road that follows the crest of the Banks Peninsula Hills between Lyttelton Harbour and Christchurch City.

Banks Peninsula, comprising Lyttelton and Akaroa Harbours are the remnants of two ancient volcanos, each harbour is the drowned crater created when the crater blew out to sea. The steep craggy hils are topped with rocky crags and the harbours are narrow and deep. From the summit road one view looks out over the flat Canterbury Plains and Christchurch City and by turning 180 degrees you look out over the sheltered seas of the harbour itself.
