Charming Creek
After leaving the Ngakawau River gorge the Charming Creek Walkway follows this beautiful forest stream where the water is naturally stained a clear tea colour because of the region;s high rainfall soaking through the forest leaf litter and leaching out the tanic acid in the leaves, literally a weak tea. This gives the water a slight acidity which adds to its erosion abilities creating some spectacular formations in the local rock, especially in limestone.
