Moeraki Peninsula, North Otago, New Zealand

Moeraki Peninsula is an important site in New Zealand both historically and ecologically. It is the site of an ancient Maori Pa from one of the earliest waves of Maori settlement in New Zealand and also has a long and interesting history of European Settlement.

It is also an important area for biodiversity with rich seas, with its coast frequented by seals and sealions and penguins including the rare and threatened yellow-eyed penguin and the more abundant little blue, the world's smallest penguin.Numerous seabirds nest on its craggy cliffs and the little fishing village is popular with holiday makers and hosts one of the best seafood restaurants in the country.
