Burrard Inlet Kayak, Aug 2008

by wanderunghike

2 Days after exploring the North Van side of the stretch between the Second Narrows and Lion's Gate bridges, I decided to check out the other side.

I put-in at Brighton park but needed my kayak wheels as the nearest road was at least 400m from the water.

Clearly the bigger ships come to this side and the biggest ship loading cranes in the world reside here.

Cruise ships also can be found on this side. As was the case with North Van, the shoreline is locked down tight. I could only have gotten out at the Cannery, and David Oppenheim park.

It turns out you are not allowed closer than 50m to a cruise ship, and un-powered craft (such as kayak) are not allowed in the harbour at all....

Thanks Harbour patrol for not fining me!
