The Pile Driver
This was the pile driver that was putting wooden piles down for my neighbours new house (rebuild). After shaking everyone to bits in nearby houses they then had to put concrete piles in. When the Geo-techinical report was done on my house they found that there is a layer of sand 15m down that has very little frictional resistance, so is probably very waterlogged and could be an aquafier. So if there is another big earthquake these piles may be next to useless.
Our engineer said that we only need a wide gravel bed to sit the foundations on as the land is better than it should be.
