The USA Battleship Texas
The Battleship Texas, commissioned in 1895, was known as the "Old Hoodoo". It served well at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba under the command of Captain John "Jack" Phillips, The ship was part of the "Flying Squadron of Commodore Schley. The squadron was gathered to defend the Atlantic coast against any Spanish fleets from making their way to the USA's Atlantic coast. The Spanish fleet after being bottled up in the Santiago Bay tried to escape the blockading American fleet. In a matter of hours, the Spanish ships were sunk or run aground, and the U.S. fleet suffered only two casualties, which were on the armored cruiser USS Brooklyn.
The Battleship Texas was decommissioned in 1911 so her name could be reused for a new dreadnought battleship, Hull No. 35.
