Shooting Blind
I left my home shortly after midnight and headed for Death Valley. I arrived at Mesquite Dunes a little after 5:30 and found one empty car in the parking lot which told me someone was already out there under the stars. I put on a head lamp, grabbed my tripod and walked up and down the dunes for about 20 minutes. Found a spot that I thought might work and set up my tripod. It was still pretty dark so I thought a star shot over the dunes might be worth a try.I turned on the camera, the red light came on, a brief flicker of the LCD screen and then darkness. I turned the camera off and on a few times and the same result. No LCD!! Took the battery in and out, pressed every button, nada!!! Being a guy I did what all guys do I hit the camera with my fist but still blackness stared back at me. I came to shoot so I set the mode button to Aperture Priority and I stared through the view finder and clicked the shutter button. I took a picture (maybe) The camera made all the correct sounds but with out being able to review the image I had no idea if it really worked or not. The sunrise came and went and so did I. On the drive home I took a detour and stopped by Canon's facility in Costa Mesa, Ca. After a quick hello I was told the camera had extensive damage and a fried main circuit board. "That will be $686 with your 20% discount Mr. Skinner". It then dawned on me that months ago I had let the camera drop in a 1 inch deep tide pool back side first and despite working quite well I had most likly soaked the crap out of it. DOH. Anyway this is one of the blind shots from that morning. Hope you all are having a great day!!
