DEVILS DON'T HAVE ANSWER FOR PENGUINS

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Albany Devils netminder Dave Caruso was tested 35 times in the team’s 4-0 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Monday night at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. The Penguins were led by Ben Street’s two goals to improve to an AHL-best 37-14-0-0. The loss moves the Devils to 18-28-0-3.

The contest was the makeup game for the Dec. 12th date, which was postponed due to unfavorable ice conditions.

The Penguins wasted no time taking control thanks to two first-period goals by Street and the third by Brett Sterling.

Street found the back of the net for his second and third goals of the season. He scored 1:57 into the game from Nick Petersen and Geoff Walker. Then at 6:22 he cashed in on a rebound with the assist going to Petersen again.

Sterling concluded the first period scoring with assists going to Ryan Craig and Nick Johnson at 14:08.

Keven Veilleux finished the scoring late in the third. His tally came with help from Walker and Street at 15:46.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton welcomed the return of All-Star goaltender Brad Thiessen, who missed six consecutive games due to injury suffered on Jan. 22 against the Devils. In this game, he made 21 saves for his 19th win.

Prior to the game, the Devils recalled forward Jeff Prough from Trenton (ECHL) and signed goaltender Jeff Lerg to a professional tryout contract. Lerg also joins the Devils from Trenton.
