Ocean City NJ Beach Replenishment

Ocean City, New Jersey . . . Due to the recent storm activity and increased erosion, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has agreed to provide additional funding for the Ocean City beach project.

Mayor Sal Perillo stated, “We certainly appreciate the strong support that NJDEP Lisa Jackson and her staff provided. This is the only beach replenishment project being completed in New Jersey this spring and the largest beachfill project ever undertaken by the State of New Jersey.”

The State has authorized an additional 140,000 cy of sand to meet design requirements at a cost of $1M.

The recent storm has also left the northern section of Ocean City severely eroded and in order to preserve the dune system, the State will direct the contractor, Great Lakes, to place sand between the Ocean City - Longport Bridge and the terminal groin totaling approximately $500,000.

“We also want to thank Congressman Frank LoBiondo who worked with the Army Corps of Engineers to expedite the permitting of this project”, noted Mayor Perillo.

The $1.5M in additional sand will help to protect existing structures and local infrastructure. The City will be responsible for 25% or $375,000.

With this additional funding, the replenishment has been expanded to a $7.5M project. The project will extend from the Ocean City- Longport Bridge to 12th Street.
